Victory Over Temptation
- 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
- Josh Akin
In Genesis 12 God told Abraham the father of our faith what He tells all of us, “Get up, from where you are. Get out, from your father’s family. Go deep, to a place where you will have to rely on Me.” Abraham’s journey of faith took a lifetime; his obedience came in fits, in bits and pieces. Like all of us, it was three steps forward and two steps back. But the ark of his life was set the moment he first got up, and left the comforts and patterns of his early life behind. He got out, from the way of thinking of culture around him. And he went deep, on a journey where he would personally rely on God.
If you struggle with depression, I believe very often, it is because you are not heeding God’s call to:
Get Up, take a chance, change your ways; live differently than before; to…
Get Out make up your own mind from your friends and your culture; to think differently than before, and…
Get Deep, follow God past the breakers.
But know this: as soon as you step out on this journey with God, temptation knocks. Every Christians receives this call to a journey of God but few leave the couch. That is exactly what Satan wants. When you step out your front door to follow God for yourself, that is precisely when the traps set. I Corinthians 10 will teach us about the temptations Satan sets for believers on the journey of faith. We will learn what they are and how to have victory over them.
