Happiness Grows In Holiness
- 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
- Josh Akin
What makes you happy?
Our culture is really good trying to be happy, and really bad at being happy. If these things actually worked wouldn’t we stop coming up with them? Think about what people do for happiness:
-Retail therapy. A couple clicks on Amazon, another box in the mail, and a hit of dopamine to the blood.
-Doom scrolling, and Netflix Binging: We find distraction but not satisfaction.
-Bucket-lists, and road trips: Do you ever come back from a road trip so exhausted, that you need a road trip?
But the worst is when our happiness is based on others.
“Oh, if she would just go out with me.”
“Oh, if he would just stop doing that one thing.”
“If they just would notice me, appreciate me, and finally get the recognition I deserve!”
If all of your dreams come true, would you be happy,…are you sure?
Because the great slump a person falls in is the realization if they finally caught what they have been chasing their whole life, it, really, wouldn’t change a thing.
Jesus taught us a better way. He said, “Blessed, (or happy) are the pure in heart.” Or, said another way:
Happiness Grows In Holiness.
In our study today in 1 Corinthians 6 we will learn to start chasing the one dream that really can make you happy: a holy life
