More Than Just Forgiven
- 1 Corinthians 2:1-16
- Josh Akin
One of the great things of the Shenandoah Valley is our Christian heritage. In the early 20th century a revival was enjoyed here that blessed generations. One vestige of that time is Bible verses and Christians sayings where ever you look: an old sign board in front of an abandoned church, next to a farmer’s mail box, and billboards on every highway. But, we need a new revival, one for our generation. For have you not seen the billboards popping up around our town spouting total heresy? In fact I saw a bumper sticker the other day that I want you to consider with me. Now, if this is on the back of your car right now I apologize. I know it is meant with good intentions. It is not heresy, it is just off. We love the Lord too much to be sloppy when we preach to those tailgating us.
The bumper sticker said: “Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven.” My issue is with that word “just.” We who believe have something so much more than just forgiveness. As great as forgiveness is, we have the Spirit.
And chapter 2 will teach us how great that treasure is.
