Finding Purpose In Pain
- 1 Kings 17:8-24
- Josh Akin
Some people can't square a good God with a broken world. But if you throw out God, how does it make any more sense? Think about all the good in the world: A baby laughing, A bride beaming down the aisle, A long hike followed by a hot pizza. Without a good creator where did the good come from?
The Bible tells us how a good God made a world with problems. He built it filled with only good things:. Adam and Eve walked with Him in the garden, enjoyed their work, their life together, the natural world, Jesus Himself walked in the cool of the garden.
But God handed us more than good things. He handed us a relationship — with Him, with each other. And relationships run on freedom. Freedom means you can choose. Choice brought sin in to world. And pain followed, and heartbreak, loneliness, and death with it.
God didn't make the pain, but He can use it for good. One day, in Heaven, He'll have victory over pain. But on this side of heaven, He offers victory through it.
1 Kings 17 will show us how.
