The Rock Philly

High school youth, join us on a transformative mission trip to Calvary Chapel Kensington, to minister with the church as they reach those in need in a city filled with homelessness and addiction. This mission will grow your faith in the Lord and soften your heart for souls in need of the gospel. We will primarily be assisting the ministry in their homeless and youth outreach.                                                                                         *Due to the nature of the outreach, the minimum age is 13 years old with parental permission  *

We will meet at the GraceBuilt Church office and leave at 9:00 am on Thursday, and arrive at Calvary Chapel Kensington in time for an evening youth outreach at 7pm.  We will head back to Waynesboro on Sunday after The Rock Church service. We plan to arrive back at GraceBuilt Church by 8:00pm.

What to bring:

• Bible
• Towel
• Toiletries
• Sleeping bag/sheets (we provide cots/air mattresses)
• Close-toed shoes for walking
• Work clothes (you’ll be serving in different outreach environments)
• Boys’ Sports: If you're a boy, bring workout clothes for Tuesday and Thursday sports.
• Extra cash for 2 fast food meals. We will stop at a fast food restaurant Thursday on the way for lunch and Sunday dinner on the way home.

Back-to-School Sunday is our chance to begin the new school year by focusing on inviting our community to hear and grow in the gospel.  We'll do our very best to put out the red carpet for our community,  with:

• Special Worship Music: Come discover modern, heart-felt worship with the GraceBuilt Worship Arts ministry. You'll love it!
• Verse-by-verse study that is easy to learn for all ages.  We want to help you learn and live out the Bible.
• Fun activities in GraceBuilt Kids Department for children during the church services along with a Bible lesson that is on point with the message the adults are hearing. 
• Potluck & Barbeque directly after second service.
• Huge water-slide for the kids.
• Games for teenagers in our Indoor Play Area.

The women of GraceBuilt Church are invited to gather for prayer, a Bible study, and make new friends. 

Join us for a unified service at 10 am for the whole church.  Like every Sunday we will worship and study the Bible but at the end of this Sunday's service Pastor Josh will give an opportunity to all who would like to be baptized to come take this vital step of faith.  It is good to share this joyous time with our families so k-5th grade and students will be delivered back to their parents just before the baptisms begin.  

Fellowship & Food Afterwards

The church is providing hot dogs after the worship service.  If you can, bring a potluck or side dish to share. The indoor play area will be open after the service for the kids to have fun and make a friend.

Where

Our worship service will be in our normal auditorium with a warm baptismal set up near the front. After the service food will be enjoyed in outdoor gathering area right next to the entrance to the Indoor Play Area.

What Is Baptism

Baptism is an outward display of an inward decision for Christ.  It is the first step in showing others the faith God has put in your heart, and an outward sign to your friends, family, and church that you associate with Jesus Christ in His death and resurrection.   If you haven't personally taken this step of faith, we encourage you to do so. 

Who Should Be Baptized

The Bible teaches that all who believe should receive both baptism, and communion, with the body of believers as a part of the local church as a declaration of faith.  So if you believe, but haven’t taken this step of faith, we invite you to be baptized at the end of this worship service.

What About Babies?  

In the Bible, there is no record of babies being baptized.  So at GraceBuilt, baptism is for those old enough to have a personal faith in God -- around 5 years old or older.  If you were baptized as a baby -- not because of personal faith, but because of someone else's decision -- we encourage you to be baptized as an expression of your own decision for Christ.

What If I Have Been Baptized Before?

If you were baptized in the past but lacked personal understanding or faith we encourage you to be baptized as an expression of your personal belief in God.

What To Bring

• Wear regular clothes.  Towels will be provided, you are welcome to bring a change of clothing.
• Bring friends and family.
• If you can, bring a dish to share for the potluck.

Claire Akin

Claire is the wife of Josh Akin and mom to their four children.  She has lived in the area since 2001.  Claire gave her life to Jesus in 1998 and has loved studying God's Word, applying it personally to her own life, and leading Bible gatherings for women.  There is nothing Claire loves more than hearing personal testimonies about Jesus from other women.  She also enjoys teaching children, toddlers and babies about Jesus at church, at work, and in her community.  Claire is a homemaker and works outside of the home part-time, so can relate to both working women and stay-at-home mamas.  Her hobbies include inventing new recipes which garner mixed reviews, devouring boring scientific studies with vigor, and watching LOTR (aka napping on the couch) on Sundays after church.

Join us for a Christmas worship night focused on Jesus to start the Christmas season right.  This is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends and family, who normally don't come to our church.  The GraceBuilt Worship Arts team will lead us in a special night of Christmas-centered worship music, with a simple gospel message celebrating the Christmas season from Pastor Josh.
